When you think of massage do you think of relaxing music and gentle release from muscle tension?

Think again!

Massage is so much more than that!

Quick anatomy lesson……

Your cardiovascular system has a pump. Your heart pumps blood throughout your body, sending oxygen and vital nutrients to your organs. The faster your heart pumps, the faster the oxygen and nutrients are circulated throughout your body.

Are you with me so far?

Good.

You also have a lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is like the garbage collection system in your body. You remember when you were a kid and your mom would squeeze your throat to see if your lymph nodes were swollen? Well, she was on to something!

Your lymphatic system collects bacteria and toxins and all sorts of yucky stuff that accumulates in your body. However, the lymphatic system does not have a pump! It is made up of a network of tiny web like structures that adhere to veins and capillaries and the waste seeps out of the veins and capillaries and drains into the lymphatic system into the lymph nodes and out of our bodies through sweat, urine, etc…

In short, since the lymphatic system works so closely with the cardiovascular system, the faster the cardiovascular system moves the faster we filter waste from our system! The faster the heart pumps the faster the blood moves. The faster the blood moves the faster the waste drains.

This is where massage comes in!

While you are relaxing on the massage table listening to smooth jazz or steel drums, the massage therapist is pushing the blood through the veins, hence helping you drain lymphatic waste from your body! All those achy knots we all develop in our poor dehydrated, overworked, underappreciated muscles are made up of excess fluid our bodies are holding on to.

We can help with that!

Less toxins leads to a healthier you!
